3 M'SIAN TV STATIONS, 20 OTHERS TO COVER SEA GAMES

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- At least 23 television stations of 10 Asean member countries including three from Malaysia, have confirmed their intention to cover the upcoming SEA Games 2011 in Jakarta and Palembang this November.

Indonesia SEA Games Organizing Committee (Inasoc) broadcast director Linda Wahyudi was qouted by Jakarta Post as saying that each contingent would be accompanied by at least a TV channel, with Thailand to send the most.

"Thailand will take seven channels, Channels 3, 5, 7, 9, 13, National Broadcasting Thai and Thai Cable," Linda said.

She said Vietnam would bring five channels, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore would have three channels each while Brunei and guest participant Timor Leste one each.

Linda said Indonesia is to broadcast 12 sports live every day, including football, badminton, volley ball, basket ball and boxing.

"This is common for a host country to do. The main media centre will be at the International Broadcast Centre on the 14th floor of the Bank Sumsel Babel building in Palembang," Linda added.

Meanwhile the Chefs-de-Mission of the participating countries are in Jakarta on Friday to inspect the competition venues and the athletes villages in the two hosting cities, Jakarta and Palembang.
