INFRASTRUCTURE AT MALAYSIA-THAI BORDER SHOULD BE UPGRADED
SIK (Kedah, Malaysia), Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Basic infrastructure, like
electricity and roads, in the Malaysia-Thai border area should be upgraded to
facilitate operations by the security forces in patrolling the country's border.
Kedah state Federal Action Council Chairman Mohd Johari Baharom said that if
possible, locations with settlements on both sides of the border, should have
spotlights.
He said one of the problems which had yet to be solved was to channel
electricity supply from Padang Besar, Perlis state to Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah.
"There are electric poles, but no electricity supply. There is also water
supply problem," he told reporters after breaking fast with members of the 6th
Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) at Gubir Camp near here Friday.
Mohd Johari, who is Agriculture and Agrobased Industry Minister, also said
patrols should be stepped up during the festive season, especially against
smuggling of rice and firecrackers.
