Iranian, Turkish calligraphers honored at Istanbul show

TEHRAN, Aug. 19 (MNA) -- The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) honored two prominent calligraphers from Iran and Turkey with medals for their art during a ceremony on Tuesday.

The ECO Cultural Institute (ECI) awarded Hasan Çelebi (Turkey) and Gholamhossein Amirkhani (Iran) for their lifetime achievements in the art of calligraphy during the event at the Dolmabahce Palace Museum in Istanbul.

The ceremony was attended by Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arinç, Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) Director Khaled Irn and ECI Director Hojjatollah Ayyubi.

“I hope that calligraphy can reach to a more sublime place in the modern world, since I believe that art is responsible for bringing people closer and deepening their connections,” Amirkhani told during the event.

At the ceremony, Hasan Çelebi also remarked briefly, “Today is one of the most glorious days of my life.”

The medal with a golden cover was designed by Iranian artist Asadollah Kiani. The grade one medal is dedicated to veteran artists in different countries of ECO member countries.

Grade two medals will be dedicated to active artists in the field from ECO countries. Talented artists will be promoted by grade three medals in future ECO programs.

A total of 100 calligraphy artworks in different styles including nastaliq, sols, taliq and divani are on display at the exhibit, which will be running until August 23.
