Iran Cinema Celebration to honor four veterans
TEHRAN, Aug. 20 (MNA) -- The Iran Cinema Celebration will pay tribute to four veterans in its fifteenth edition during a ceremony to be held at Tehran’s Eyvan-e Shams Theater on September 12.
Ali Zarrin, former director of the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA), Masud Behnam, the first cineaste who established Dolby Surround Sound in Iranian cinema, as well as filmmaker Kamal Tabrizi and actor Davud Rashidi will be honored at the ceremony.
The decision was announced in a press conference held here on last week attended by the secretary of the celebration Kiumars Purahmad and the executive manager of the festival Maziar Miri.
“IIDCYA experienced the best years during Zarrin’s management and many good films were made in those days when burning rolls of films and deleting old memories of Iran’s cinema was common,” Purahmad said.
“He created a good atmosphere in IIDCYA in which prominent filmmakers like Bahram Beizaii got the opportunity to make ‘Bashu, the Little Stranger’ or Amir Naderi who made ‘The Runner’”, he added.
“And when he was asked to leave his job at IIDCYA, he answered he is a simple teacher and returned back to his teaching career,” Purahmad said.
Miri continued that all the cineastes are interested in making a short documentary about Zarrin and his influential effect on Iranian cinema.
“Filmmaker Tabrizi never abandoned us in any situation and was always there for us and the House of Cinema,” Miri added.
Purahmad also talked about Rashidi and said, “He is one of the veterans in cinema and television. I have learned a lot from him. He is a professional actor with high morals.
“Behnam has also made great efforts for cinema and his personal character as a cinematic figure is venerable,” Purahmad concluded.
The festival is held annually to celebrate Iran’s National Cinema Day (Sept. 12) and is sponsored by the House of Cinema.
