Compilation of Persian Literature Encyclopedia halted due to lack of funds

TEHRAN, Aug. 21 (MNA) -- The project of compiling the Persian Literature Encyclopedia has been halted due to lack of funds, according to the chief editor of the encyclopedia.

“Over the past 20 years, I have supported the compilation of the encyclopedia with my personal finances, but I cannot afford to publish additional volumes of the encyclopedia,” the Persian service of ISNA quoted Hassan Anusheh as saying in a report published on Saturday.

“Persian Literature in Central Asia”, “Dictionary of Persian Literature Terms and Themes”, “Persian Literature in Afghanistan”, “Persian Literature in the Subcontinent”, “Persian Literature in the Caucasus”, “Persian Literature in Anatolia”, and “Persian Literature in the Arab World” are the volumes of the encyclopedia that have been published.

Anusheh previously announced that he wanted to dedicate one of the volumes of the encyclopedia to study Persian language research centers in various countries, but he could not continue due to financial problems.

“Persian language research centers are essential in promoting the language in different part of world, and cultural organizations should support them and help them increase their activities,” he stated.

Anusheh said that he and a number of scholars and translators compiled the volumes of the encyclopedia without receiving any support from state-run or private organizations over the years.

The chief editor of the encyclopedia has written several books on Persian history and culture.

Anusheh is also working with scholars Jalaleddin Kazzazi, Fereidun Joneidi, and Jalal Khaleqi-Motlaq in a project to compile the first encyclopedia on Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh.
