CHARITY BODIES GOOD PLATFORMS TO BUILD PEACEFUL, PROSPEROUS NATION
IPOH (Malaysia), Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Charity and welfare bodies are good
platforms to bring together the wishes and efforts of the people in building a
peaceful and prosperous Malaysia.
The Regent of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah said such organisations also showed
how people from various races, religions, social strata and economic backgrounds
could pool resources, energy, thoughts and efforts to do noble work.
"Charity and welfare bodies demonstrate the spirit of sacrifice and giving
among people," he said at the presentation of awards from the Sultan Azlan Shah
Foundation, here, Sunday.
He said peace and prosperity would not take place if there were those among
the rich who opted to isolate themselves from the sea of poverty.
As such, the spirit to do charity and welfare work must always be instilled
among those who had been endowed with riches to be willing to use a portion of
their wealth to help the poor, he said.
"The giving of alms reflect the human spirit, generosity and moral greatness
of a person. Those who have been given more in terms of riches, should reflect
that gift through good humanitarian deeds," he said.
At the ceremony, 65 welfare organisations received awards from the
foundation in conjunction with Ramadan.
"It is hoped that the awards could help the great efforts pioneered by each
of the welfare organisations present.
"It is also the hope of Sultan Azlan Shah that the awards could encourage
and inspire those involved to continue the noble effort for the benefit of the
people," he added.
