IIUM TO SET UP A COUNCIL TO INTERACT WITH STUDENTS

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The Islamic International University Malaysia (IIUM) plans to set up a Council of Professors to interact with its students, its Rector Prof Dr Zaleha Kamaruddin said.

Dr Zaleha said they will use popular social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter for more open communication.

"We will get good results by listening to the students and not just by assuming," she said after the launch of Independence Month at the university on Monday.

She said discussions on the Council were underway and expected to be launched after a meeting with the Students' Representative Council.

Dr Zaleha, who was appointed Rector to replace Prof Syed Arabi Idid on Aug 10, said IIUM had 22,000 students and 20 per cent of them were from overseas.

Commenting on her appointment, she said she hoped to continue efforts to raise the standard of the institution through professional education and producing students with Islamic values.
