STRONG WINDS AND ROUGH SEAS OVER TYPHOON NANMADOL
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- The Meteorological Department has issued
an advisory on strong winds and rough seas over Typhoon Nanmadol, which was
detected 499km northeast of Manila, the Philippines Thursday afternoon.
Typhoon, which was detected at latitude 16.3 north and 125.2 east at 2pm,
had tracked westward slowly, it said in a statement Thursday.
It said the typhoon was about 1,395km northeast of Sandakan and 1,386km
northeast of Kudat, Sabah.
As a result, strong south-westerly winds of 40km to 50km per hour with waves
up to 3.5 meters are expected to occur over the waters off Labuan, Sabah (West
Coast and Kudat), Phuket, Condore, Reef North, Layang-Layang and Palawan from
Friday until Tuesday.
The strong winds and rough seas are dangerous to small craft and
recreational sea activities and sports, said the statement.
