Tehran is serious in campaign against terrorism: Iranian official
TEHRAN, Aug.27(MNA)-- The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said that the Islamic Republic is serious in its campaign against terrorism.
Saeed Jalili made the remarks during a meeting with Vice President of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Nechirvan Barzani in Tehran on Thursday.
The visit of Barzani to Tehran at this juncture is highly important as Iran has launched a campaign against the terrorist group PJAK which uses the Iraqi Kurdistan soil as a safe haven for its guerilla moves against Iran.
“We will not allow foreigners to undermine security, progress and welfare of the two countries (Iran and Iraq) by taking advantage of terrorists,” Jalili stated.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Jalili said the deficiencies caused by Saddam Hussein’s regime, which inhibited the regional economic development, should be compensated.
He went on to say that the establishment of security plays a crucial role in deepening relations between the two countries in all spheres.
He also emphasized the importance of trade relationships particularly in the border provinces.
Barzani also commented on Iran’s support for the oppressed people of Kurdistan during Saddam’s regime.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Barzani condemned acts of terrorism and said terrorism undermines security in the region.
He also called for closer ties with Iran and praised Tehran’s continuing support for regional nations.
