TEHRAN, Aug.28(MNA) -- The Iranian films “Final Whistle”, on social and private life interactions, and “Mourning”, about family drama, will be competing in various sections at 16th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in South Korea in October.

Directed by Iranian actress and filmmaker Niki Karimi, “Final Whistle” is about a documentarian couple Sahar and Saman, who have their calm life disrupted. Sahar is informed that one of their cast members faces a death sentence due to a murder charge. She begins to convince the relatives of the decedent to overturn the sentence.

This film will be screened in the section of A Window on Asian Cinema, which is a showcase of brand new and/or representative films by talented Asian filmmakers with their diverse points of view and style.

Starring Niki Karimi, Shahab Hosseini and Hasti Mahdavifar, the film is currently on screen in the Iranian theaters. In an innovative promotion of the film, Karimi and Mahdavifar are present at the box office of Tehran’s Azadi Cinematic Complex every day, selling tickets to the filmgoers.

Debut film of Morteza Farshbaf’s “Mourning” will be competing in the New Currents section, which is dedicated to first or second-time Asian directors.

The film is about a deaf couple that travels to Tehran to reunite their nephew with his parents after a ferocious argument and discovers there has been a horrific accident and must shield the boy from the truth.

One of the most significant film festivals in Asia, the Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 6 to 14 this year.
