10 die in suicide attack in northwest Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Sept. 20 Kyodo -
Ten people were killed in a suicide attack on a military convoy in Pakistan's
tribal area of North Waziristan in northwest Pakistan on Saturday, security
officials said.
They said a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-ridden vehicle into a military
convoy near Miran Shah, the headquarters of the North Waziristan tribal agency
bordering Afghanistan.
Defense Ministry officials in Rawalpindi confirmed the attack but put the death
toll at six, including two security men. They said five security men have
suffered wounds and are hospitalized in Miran Shah.
The Pakistan Army has been engaged in a continuing operation against the
Pakistani Taliban in North Waziristan, which is viewed as a stronghold of the
Pakistani Taliban and a safe haven for al-Qaida and Afghan Taliban fighters.
