POOR DEMAND FOR FESTIVE SEASON EXTRA EXPRESS BUSES
POOR DEMAND FOR FESTIVE SEASON EXTRA EXPRESS BUSES
By Nursyabiha Sukri
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- Demand has been poor for the extra buses
brought into service for the Aidilfitri festive season, much to the surprise of
the express bus operators.
A check by Bernama at several bus terminals in the city revealed that there
was no rush for tickets unlike in the past.
At Pudu Sentral, counter clerk Rudhiah Awang, 53, of Syarikat Bas AB
Ekspress Sdn Bhd, said demand for the additional buses was discouraging
considering that the number of ticket counters at the upgraded terminal had been
reduced by half to only 50.
"The ticket prices are the same and there is no surcharge but there is no
rush," she told Bernama.
Zubaidah Baharom, 44, counter clerk for Syarikat Season Ekspress Sdn Bhd,
attributed the poor response to people having purchased their tickets much
earlier.
Nevertheless, she said, the counters would be open even on the first day of
Aidilfitri to sell the tickets for the additional buses.
At Hentian Duta, Nurul Fatihah Abu Hassan, 17, counter clerk for Syarikat
Bas Cosmic Mesra Rakyat Express, said tickets for the normal buses were sold out
but response for the extra buses was poor.
"We have reserved five extra buses. Usually, at the last minute, there will
be many people rushing to buy these tickets," she said.
At Hentian Putra, Syarikat Bas Sani Ekspress operations officer Kamal
Hanizan Muhammad, 30, said tickets for buses heading to the east coast were
still available, even up to Monday.
"We have five extra buses running right up to Monday to the east coast," he
said.
Cepat Ekspress counter clerk Hassan Ali, 43, said the company was prepared
to put on five extra buses and reduce the ticket prices if there was encouraging
response.
Meanwhile, in Alor Setar, bus passenger Norhayati Mohd Akhir, 28, expressed
disappointment over the raising of ticket prices, from RM39 (US$13) to RM45
(US15), for a trip from Alor Setar to Kuala Lumpur. (US$1=RM2.98)
