AQSA2GAZA2 CHANNELED US$502,916 AID TO PALESTINIANS
SEPANG (Malaysia), Aug 29 (Bernama) - The second Ramadan Humanitarian
Mission to Gaza (AQSA2GAZA2) 2011 organised by Aqsa Syarif achieved its goal of
channeling RM1.5mil (US$502,916) contribution by Malaysians to Palestinians.
The convoy of 11 activists headed by Assoc Prof Mohd Zin Kandar who left for
Gaza on Aug 21 arrived safely at KL International Airport (KLIA) here Sunday.
Mohd Zin said the donations were channeled through four sectors - medical,
education, food and health.
"The mission was also to review some of the projects agreed during the first
mission last year," he told reporters here Sunday.
Among projects implemented was construction of a bakery worth RM630,000
(US$211,225) on the outskirt of Gaza City that indirectly provides employment
and food supply.
In addition, Aqsa Sharif also set up an office in Gaza with the help of
Palestinian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to facilitate the mission.
"This is because Gaza needs more humanitarian aid especially medicine. Some
medicine especially those required for surgery had completely run out."
Mohd Zin said the aid mission would be continued as 12 projects had been
identified, mostly related to education and socio-economic development, medical
and welfare centres for those maimed by Israeli atrocities.
Viva Palestina Malaysia through its representative Azian Anidin donated
RM300,000 (US$ 100,583) to three projects - Family and Society Development
Association, micro-credit loans and medicine for Karamah Hospital in Jabaliya.
