MALAYSIA PROPERTY INCORPORATED TO HOST FIRST PROPERTY EXPO IN EAST KALIMANTAN

By Nashir Mansor

TAWAU (Malaysia), Sept 2 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Property Incorporated
(MPI), an agency under the Sabah Economic Planning Unit, intends to host a
property expo in East Kalimantan early next year.

MPI Vice-President II (Investment Promotion) Hizzan Hamid said the expo is
to promote the property sector in Sabah and in Peninsular Malaysia to potential
investors in the resource-rich Indonesian province bordering Sabah and Sarawak.

"If the expo materialises as planned, the event will be held in January or
in March next year. We intend to bring six or 10 property developers from Sabah
to participate in the expo," he told BERNAMA.

Hizzan said MPI was looking for a strategic site to host the expo being
hosted by the agency for the first time in East Kalimantan.

The MPI was also scouting for an Indonesian partner to jointly host the
expo, he said.

Hizzan said the expo was a follow up to the recent visit to Balikpapan in
East Kalimantan by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa
Mohamed to explore investment prospects and promote investment opportunities
in Peninsular Malaysia, particularly in Sabah.

He said Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA)
president and chief executive officer Dr Mohd Yaakub Johari had expressed
his readiness to cooperate with MPI to host the expo.

He said MPI would hold a follow-up meeting with Mohd Yaakub and property
developers in Sabah to discuss further details on the expo.

Hizzan said though the expo's main focus was on property promotion, MPI was
seeking support sectors like education, healthcare and tourism to also part take
in the expo.

Based on feedback received, his meeting and discussions with entrepreneur
associations and investors in East Kalimantan, investment prospects for
Malaysian investors in the province were promising, he said.

"Many Malaysian entrepreneurs, especially oil palm estate owners, who are on
a expansion drive in East Kalimantan, are keen to know the property sector's
prospects in Indonesia," he added.

Meanwhile, parties keen to take part in the expo and wish to get more
details can reach Hizzan at hizzan@malaysiapropertyinc.com
