COLLEAGUES SAY BERNAMATV CAMERAMAN'S DEATH A GREAT LOSS

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- Noramfaizul Mohd Nor, 39, the
BernamaTV cameraman killed by a stray bullet while covering a humanitarian
mission in Somalia Friday, was easy to get along with, generous with his
smiles and dedicated to his job.

BernamaTV chief cameraman Ahmad Azmai Awang, who has been with organisation
for 11 years, said that Noramfaizul would be greatly missed.

He said his colleague, whom he had known since 1995, was approachable,
humble and steadfast in his work.

"He had covered many missions before this -- in Gaza, Pakistan and
New Zealand. I never thought this would be the last mission for him," he said.

Noramfaizul, who was born on Nov 14, 1971 in Gombak, Selangor, was the
eldest of six siblings and the only son of the family.

He was educated at Sekolah Kebangsaan Gombak Setia, Sekolah Menengah Agama
Rawang and Sekolah Menengah Agama Klang. He furthered his studies at Goon
Institute in Pudu.

Noramfaizul leaves behind his wife Norazrina Jaafar, 37, and two sons, Mohd
Irfan, eight, and Mohd Naufal, three.

Azmai recalled Noramfaizul was determined to cover the 1Malaysia Putera
Club mission to help the famine and drought stricken Somalis.

"He said 'I'm not going for fun, I really want to represent our country.' As
a friend he did not hesitate to point something out if he felt it was not
right," said Azmai.

Azmai said they had been housemates the past four years and he has never
seen his friend moody.

Another colleague, photographer Zulkarnain Kamaruddin, said he experienced
the ups and downs of being in the industry with Noramfaizul since their
days in Metrovision in 1997.

"We went together for our interview at Metrovision and became freelance
cameramen after the company was closed down," he said.

"I will never forget March 3, 2003, as it was the date we were both offered
permanent jobs with BernamaTV," he added.

Noramfaizul also had short stints in Filem Negara and Air Time Services, a
production company, between 1998 and 2002.

Cameraman Fazly Mostafa, who covered the departure of the mission at the
Royal Malaysian Air Force base in Subang on Aug 28, said he had joked with
Noramfaizul on that day.

According to Fazly, Noramfaizul was quiet throughout the journey from the
office until he was about to board the plane.

Fazly said he jokingly said that someone else could take over Noramfaizul's
place if he was reluctant to go.

"He answered,’ I’m okay, just as long as I can make it back.'" said a teary
Fazly.

Suhaimi Mahadi, also a BernamaTV cameraman, said Noramfaizul loved sports
and frequently covered sporting events.

"I still remember walking around Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman with him three
days before Hari Raya looking at the festive goods for sale. I just followed him
as I knew he liked to walk," he said.

Meanwhile BernamaTV reporter Mazizul Dani described Noramfaizul as a great
cameraman with interesting visual techniques.

He did not foresee the special report on Chow Kit market aired today would
be their last assignment together.

Noramfaizul had asked for his name to be mentioned in the stand upper even
though such a thing was only done for overseas coverage, said Mazizul.

Siti Zanariah Nor Zin, a BernamaTV reporter who was originally assigned to
go on the mission but was replaced, said:"He got along well with everyone and
was a good, brave and dedicated person."
