Doha, September 05 (QNA) - Qatar s senior football team held their regular training session at Jassim bin Hamad stadium of Al-Sadd sports club on Sunday.
The national team is preparing to lock horns against Iran on Tuesday here in Doha in the Asian Zone qualifications for FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.
Qatar football squad on Friday played a goalless draw against hosts Bahrain in Manama picking up a valuable point in their Asian Zone 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.
"We respect the Iranians, who beat Indonesia by three clear goals. Qatar should not be overly concerned about them, though," Striker Sebastian Soria told Qatari English daily “Gulf Times" today. (QNA)

HE Prime Minister Gets a Phone Call from His British Counterpart

Doha, September 05 (QNA) - HE the Prime Minister And Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani on Monday got a phone call from British Prime Minister David Cameron .
Over their phone conversation the two sides reviewed relations between the two countries and means of further bolstering and developing them.
A set of other issues of mutual concern was also taken up.(QNA)

Doha Officially Launches 2017 IAAF World Championships Bid

Doha, September 5 (QNA) - The Qatar Association of Athletics Federation (QAAF), in collaboration with the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Monday launched their official candidacy for the 2017 IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) World Championships, a Doha 2017 official told Qatar News Agency (QNA).
Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Secretary General Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani is the chief of the Doha 2017 IAFF World Championships Bid Committee.
The committee submitted its proposed plans for the 2017 IAAF World Championships to the IAAF on September 1, he said.
Doha 2017 is the right partner to ensure that the 2017 IAAF World Championships showcases athletics at its very best, while also developing solutions for expanding Athletics for the future, the panel said today in a media statement.
QAAF President and Executive Director of Doha 2017 Bid Committee Abdulla Al Zaini, said, "After months of preparation, we are delighted to have submitted our plans to the IAAF. Our experienced team, with the full support from all levels of government, is eager to work with the IAAF over the coming months to finalise the plans to fit their needs and ensure that the 2017 IAAF World Championships set new standards."
Everything is in place for unforgettable championships. From a state-of-the-art stadium to the highly anticipated development of 'Athletics City', a new property development that will accommodate the athletes and the IAAF, Doha 2017 will be a Championship that exceeds all expectations.

Qatar Partakes in Non-Aligned Movement's 50th Anniversary

Belgrade, September 05 (QNA) - Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud chaired Qatar's delegation to the ministerial meeting of the official 50th anniversary of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which is due to open in Belgrade later Monday and run for two days.
HE Al Mahmoud and the accompanying delegation arrived at Belgrade International Airport earlier Monday and were welcomed upon arrival by the Assistant Foreign Minister of Serbia and Qatar's Ambassador to Serbia HE Salim Al Jaber.
