Noda holds phone talks with Chinese, Russian, S. Korean leaders+

     TOKYO, Sept. 6 Kyodo -
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda held separate phone talks Tuesday with his Russian, Chinese and South Korean counterparts, with the new Japanese leader vowing to build favorable relations with the respective neighboring countries.
Noda and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao agreed that their countries will deepen their mutually beneficial strategic partnership and cooperate in various fields, including maritime cooperation and promotion of tourism, Japanese Foreign Ministry officials said.
Wen invited Noda to visit China at an early date, and the Japanese prime minister said he wants to do so at a mutually convenient time, the officials said.
Noda and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev agreed to continue talks in a calm manner on a longstanding territorial dispute between the two nations, they said.
The Japanese premier told Medvedev that Tokyo aims to build a ''true friendship'' with Russia and that for the purpose, it is necessary to settle the territorial dispute and sign a peace treaty.
Medvedev said Russia is ready to discuss the issue with Tokyo in a ''calm and good atmosphere.''
The territorial row over the islands of Etorofu, Kunashiri and Shikotan as well as the Habomai islet group, which were seized by the Soviet Union following Japan's surrender in World War II, has prevented the two countries from signing a postwar peace treaty.
Meanwhile, Noda and South Korean President Lee Myung Bak agreed that Tokyo and Seoul as well as the United States will continue to work closely on North Korea-related issues, while Noda told Lee that Japan wants to resume talks on a free trade agreement between the two countries, the officials said.
Noda invited Lee to visit Japan as a state guest, and Lee also asked his Japanese counterpart to make a trip to South Korea, they added.
