Iran stages aerial war game

TEHRAN, Sept.7(MNA) -- The initial stage of an aerial war game focusing on offensive tactics, entitled Defenders of the Skies of Velayat 3, started on Tuesday in northwest Iran, the deputy commander of the Air Force for air operations announced.
In the initial stage of the war game, Air Force planes will transport military personnel and equipment from nine air bases of the Air Force to the northwest of the country, where the main stages of the aerial maneuver will take place, Brigadier General Mohammad Alavi said during a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday.
“During the ten-day war game, equipment, tactics, and ammunition of fighter jets will be tested in four stages,” he explained.
Iranian fighter jets, including the Sa’eqeh (thunderbolt), will carry out hundreds of sorties during the war game and will drop high-tonnage smart and precision-guided bombs on mock targets, he added.
The Sa’eqeh is Iran’s first domestically manufactured fighter.
The Sa’eqeh is a single-seater fighter jet. It is the second generation of the Azarakhsh fighter. Sa’eqeh fighter planes were first tested successfully in September 2007. The Sa’eqeh is a joint product of the Iranian Air Force and the Defense Ministry.
Alavi stated that Air Force transport planes will also carry out various operations such as airlifts and the transportation of military equipment and airborne troops.
