Documents exhibit Iran’s occupation by Allies

TEHRAN, Sept.7( MNA) -- A collection files and photos documenting the inauspicious outcomes of Iran’s occupation by the Allies during World War II are on display in an exhibition at the Iran National Library and Archives (INLA).

The collection includes 130 documents mostly about the damages caused by the occupation in Iran, INLA official Mojgan Tajik said in a press release on Tuesday.

The exhibition has been organized to mark the 70th anniversary of the occupation and will run until October 7.

The Allies violated Iran’s neutrality in World War II, invading the country on August 25, 1941, to secure Iranian oil fields and ensure the Allies’ supply lines for the Soviets fighting against Axis forces.

The British began to withdraw on March 2, 1946, six months after the end of World War II, but the Soviets refused to leave Iran allegedly due to threats to Soviet security.

However, the Soviet troops withdrew from Iran proper in May of 1946 after receiving promises of petroleum concessions.
