Injured Iran captain Nekounam likely to play Osasuna game
TEHRAN, Sept.10 (MNA)-- Javad Nekounam could play for Osasuna against Sporting Gijon after the Spanish club confirmed his injury was not as serious as it was first seemed.
Iran captain Nekounam was forced to leave the field in the match against Qatar on Tuesday in the 2014 World Cup qualifier in Doha after straining his left hamstring. It was feared Nekounam would be sidelined at least for three weeks.
The Iranian midfielder underwent several scans at the San Miguel Clinic in Pamplona. Osasuna doctor Patxi Cipriain said his injury is not that serious and the player could feature the team in the coming games.
Osauna will host Sporting Gijon in the second game of the season on Sunday. The team will play Barcelona on September 17 at the Nou Camp.
