DON'T CHANGE HISTORICAL FACTS, SAYS MALAYSIAN PM NAJIB

BUKIT MERTAJAM (Malaysia), Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister of Malaysia
Najib Tun Razak Sunday reminded the people not to change historical facts or to
glorify the communist terrorists.

He said the communist terrorists in the past era were certainly cruel and
the people were in their grips as their ideology did not favour the people, and
were anti-religion and despotic.

"That was why we opposed the communists at that time because they were
behaving cruelly in this country," he said at the Malaysia Aidilfitri-Merdeka
2011 open house, here.

The Prime Minister said the communist did not give democracy to the people
of Malaysia whereas the present government respected the democratic process.

"That's why sometimes we lose, and sometimes we win. But we hope we win more
than we lose," he said.

Najib said the communists at that time were different from the present
communism because in the past, the communists did not give the people the right
to be wealthy.

"The present communism is different from the past. Previously, they wanted
to control the country and spread the ideology which did not give the people
their rights.

"We are friendly with communist countries now because they have discarded
their old ideology," he said.

The Prime Minister said the present government respected the people's voice,
practised moderation and was not extreme.

He said Malaysians should be grateful for having chosen strong leaders who
had drawn up national policies which suited the present situation.

He said that two factors that led to the success of the nation were the
far-sightedness of the past leaders in drawing up the country's policies and
their vision.

"In every era, we had leaders who were wise in making decisions and taking
action," he said.

Najib said that as an example, in efforts to gain national independence, the
past leaders chose to opt for negotiations because they wanted the colonialists
to leave the country.
