Certificate of UNESCO registration of Iran`s Khorasan music handed to Ahmadinejad

TEHRAN, Sept. 13 (MNA) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad received the certificate of registration of the music of the Bakhshis of the Khorasan region on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity during a ceremony held in Bojnurd, North Khorasan Province on September 11.

The certificate was handed to the president by the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Secretary General Mohammad-Yahya Maroofi.

The music of the Bakhshis of the Khorasan region and several other items of national heritage were registered on UNESCO’s list during the Fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Committee in Nairobi in November 2010.

The program took place at the opening ceremony of an exhibition of handicrafts by ECO member countries attended by officials and the ECO member countries’ ambassadors.

We need to proudly introduce our elevated music to the world, the president said at the ceremony.

Iranian music shows the path to salvation and anybody who listens to it can find the call to humanity, Ahmadinejad said, adding that it is not like Western music which is considered to be a harbinger of lust and selfishness.

He also stated that the Western music has turned into a political-cultural medium intending to dominate the world.

The historic and picturesque site Beshqardash in Bojnurd is playing host to handicrafts created by 33 artisans from Iran, Tajikistan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Jewelry, earthenware, batik, calligraphy on leather, and traditional costumes are some of the items on display.

Several workshops and meetings are also arranged on the side section of the exhibit in which the artisans get the chance to exchange experiences and views.

A variety of entertaining programs are also planned during the event which will be running until September 17.
