KEOMANY IS LAOS' NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO ASEAN
JAKARTA, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- Asean Secretary-General Dr Surin Pitsuwan this week welcomed Latsamy Keomany as the new Permanent Representative of Laos to Asean.
Key issues discussed included the importance of Asean’s Master Plan on Connectivity, especially for developing countries in Asean, the progress on the Initiative for Asean Integration, and Laos' hosting of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in 2012.
During the presentation of his Letter of Credentials to Surin, Keomany commended Surin's leadership which has contributed to the success of Asean's response to regional and international issues, the Asean Secretariat said in a statement on Wednesday.
Keomany also conveyed Laos’ hopes for the Asean Secretariat to assist in improving member states’ capacity in advancing Asean’s decisions and expressed his country's hope for the support of the Asean Secretariat in narrowing Laos' development gap.
Surin invited Laos to send staff and officials to the Asean Secretariat for training and capacity building, the statement added.
