Dubai Institute of Technology, Fraunhofer sign agreement on development of R'&'D model
Dubai, Sept. 23, 2008 (WAM) - Dubai Institute of Technology (DIT), the science and technology facilitator of Economic Zones World has announced yesterday that it has signed an agreement with the leading European applied research organisation, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, on the development of a strategic science '&' technology framework within Dubai Institute of Technology.
Under the agreement, the two parties will work together towards the creation of a comprehensive R'&'D and Innovation model. Fraunhofer will counsel and assist DIT in the managerial development of a solid R'&'D driven technological framework which will serve as groundwork for prospective innovation-led business initiatives within DIT in the approaching years.
The agreement signed by Hamad Al Hashemi, Managing Director, Dubai Institute of Technology, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Mertins, Director at Fraunhofer IPK, will accelerate the progress of capacity building in applied research and innovation management in the Middle East and North Africa Region.
Hamad Al Hashemi said: "DIT's vision is to lead the region towards a value-based knowledgeable society by creating an ecosystem that supports science, technology '&' innovation in the region and leads to sustainable macroeconomic growth. Our partnership with Fraunhofer will certainly go a long way in realizing this goal and in establishing a strong R'&'D base in the Middle East." The DIT's efforts will be dedicated to the enhancement of excellence in science and technology in various fields, such as sustainable industrial development, information and communication technologies, sustainable management of environment, energy and water.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Mertins said: "We look forward to working with DIT to generate a system to address cross-cutting issues like R'&'D management, innovation management, optimized structures and programmes pertaining to this region. DIT, like Fraunhofer highlights the investment possibilities and economic benefits of a culture of innovation and we support their efforts to tap into the region's exciting innovation-led growth potential."
