CHINA CONDUCTS NATIONWIDE GANG SWEEP
BEIJING (Bernama) - Police have arrested 2,128 suspects and busted 288 syndicates in a nationwide crackdown on criminal gangs, said China's Ministry of Public Security.
Since Sept 1, police from 11 provinces and areas conducted a gang sweep, targeting heads and key members of gangs especially in Hebei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Hunan and Guangdong Province, the ministry said in a statement.
China has put gang sweep as its top priority since 2006, promising no compromise against criminal elements.
