'British foreign secretary ’s remarks meant to divert attention from crackdown on UK people'
TEHRAN, Sept. 17 (MNA)--Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Ali Ahani denounced British Foreign Secretary William Hague’s claims against the Islamic Republic as an attempt to divert attention from the crackdown on British people.
Hague has recently claimed that Iran’s refusal to respond to its people’s demands for greater freedom is isolating the country from the rest of the world, saying Britain will push the United Nations for a strong resolution condemning human rights violations in Iran.
He has also said that the revolutions of the Arab Spring in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya showed that the desire for human rights and open government was universal and efforts to suppress it in Iran would fail.
“It is regrettable that the British foreign secretary makes such hostile remarks in an attempt to divert world public opinion from the use of violence and inhumane methods by the British police and security forces against defenseless British protesters who are suffering from poverty, discrimination, and injustice,” Ahani stated on Thursday.
He also said that the British government should be held accountable for supporting the suppression of the oppressed regional people who are campaigning for their rights.
