MALAYSIA'S DOUBLE-TRACK RAIL PROJECT READY BEFORE 2014: DPM
BUTTERWORTH (Penang, Malaysia), Sept 17 (Bernama) -- The 329km Ipoh-Padang Besar Electrified Double Track Project (EDTP) is expected to be completed ahead of the scheduled date in 2014, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said on Saturday.
Muhyiddin, who was on a working visit to Penang, said construction by MMC-Gamuda Joint Venture Sdn Bhd is progressing smoothly.
"I understand that the project will be completed ahead of the scheduled date in 2014," he said after a visit to the project site here.
Muhyiddin began his day-long visit to the state meeting traders and shoppers at the Tasek Gelugor market before walking about 200 metres to the double-track construction site.
The EDTP railway, a RM12.5 billion (US$4.04 billion) infrastructure project that began in early 2008, spans Peninsular Malaysia's north-western states of Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis.
