British royal family, a colonial remnant
TEHRAN, Sept. 18 (MNA) -- Britain is based on a monarchy system in which the queen is considered as a symbol of unity but it has been a while that the necessity of such a royal system has been put into a question in the UK.
Though in public view monarchy system exists only in undemocratic and underdeveloped countries, there are still such systems in developed states. Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Spain and many other countries are governed by monarchy systems, where “royal families” still come to mind as irritants.
However, the British royal family is much more highlighted compared to the others.
The country has been suffering from an weak economy over the past decades, which has made Britons ask this question: what is the logic behind the existence of such an extravagant family while there are numerous economic problems.
Once upon a time, the royal family and atop that the queen was the symbol of unity but today and in early the 21st century there is a question as to why such system should exist.
The opposition groups in Britain believe that the royal family has no executive power and cannot make any decisions on how to run the country, so why it should exist. The high expenses of the family and the huge amount of money paid for it as well as their extravagant lifestyle have aroused the anger of the people.
The royal family cannot and should not have a job, this and many other similar rules have made the British people to form a negative view about this parasitic lifestyle.
In a country where unemployment is high, the money paid to the royal family for doing “nothing”, has caused the people to come to this conclusion that the royal family is a legacy of colonialism.
People from Scotland are among the groups opposed to the family and they believe spending tax money for this family is not acceptable.
“I am a British and I think the royal family is a waste of money,” said an English citizen.
The opposition groups in Britain have expressed their grievances against the royal system from time to time. The latest one was when Prince William and Kate Middleton married and while tourists were celebrating near Buckingham Palace, many others were protesting.
