Iran`s “Nader and Simin” wins more honors at home
TEHRAN, Sept. 18 (MNA) -- “Nader and Simin, a Separation” won best film award at the 15th Iran Cinema Celebration. However, “Here without Me” stood on top, winning six awards, among them best film adaptation and best cinematography.
Iran’s submission to the 84th Annual Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Films category in 2012, “Nader and Simin” stood second with three more awards including best director.
A portrayal of the break-up of a marriage, “Nader and Simin” by director Asghar Farhadi won a Golden Bear for the best film at the Berlin Film Festival and its cast ensemble received best actor and actress Silver Bears at the event this year.
“Here without Me” by Bahram Tavakkoli is about a middle-aged single mother, who lives with her sole son and a disabled daughter, each of them seeking their own dreams and desires.
The award presentation ceremony for the main section took place here at Tehran’s Masudieh Edifice on Friday attended by a group of cineastes.
Secretary of the celebration Kiumars Purahmad was first to come on stage where he expressed his thanks to Director of the Iranian House of Cinema Mohammad-Mehdi Asgarpur for his great assistance.
The festival is sponsored by the House of Cinema and is held annually to celebrate Iran’s National Cinema Day (Sept. 12).
“This celebration belongs to all Iranian cineastes and owes its credits to all of them. The members of this house believe in this celebration,” Purahmad said.
The ceremony continued with short speeches and handing awards to the winners, followed by long applause each time.
The following is the list of the other winners:
* Best Original Screenplay: Asghar Farhadi “Nader and Simin, a Separation”
* Best Film Adaptation: Bahram Tavakkoli “Here without Me”
* Best Actor: Reza Attaran “Absolutely Tame Is a Horse” and “Women Only”
* Best Actress: Fatemeh Motamed-Arya “Here without Me”
* Best Supporting Actor: Shahab Hosseini “Nader and Simin, a Separation”
* Best Supporting Actress: Negar Javaherian “Here without Me”
* Best Cinematographer: Hamid Khozuii Abyaneh “Here without Me”
* Best Stage Designer: Atusa Qalamfarsaii “Here without Me”
* Best Sound Effects: Amir-Hossein Qasemi “Here without Me”
The celebration was brought to an end where TV comedy king Mehran Modiri performed the piece “My Land” with Tehran’s Symphony Orchestra by conductor Shahdad Rohani. Several actors and actresses performed Iran’s former national anthem “O, Iran” at the end of the ceremony.
