Iran votes for handing Libya’s UN seat to NTC
TEHRAN, Sept.19(MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast said on Saturday that Iran has voted for handing the Libyan’s seat in the United Nations to the National Transitional Council.
The Libyan revolution moved in a direction that the NTC emerged as the political representative of the African country, so the Islamic Republic of Iran respected the will of the Muslim people of Libya and voted for handing Libya’s UN seat to the NTC to help the restoration of stability and security and the establishment of political institutions in the war-torn country.
He added that Iran is hopeful that the NTC could foster national unity and solidarity and prevent the hegemons, which are seeking to take advantage of regional developments, from gaining dominance over Libya.
According to AP, the UN gave strong backing to Libya’s former rebels Friday, handing the NTC the country’s UN seat and then lifting and modifying some sanctions imposed on Libya.
