Iranian director criticizes French Embassy over insulting behavior
TEHRAN, Sept. 19 (MNA) -- Iranian stage director Behruz Gharibpur raised objections to French officials for their improper behaviors in issuing visas for his Aran Theater Troupe, which is to attend the Charleville-Mézières Puppet Theater Festival.
The Aran Theater Troupe directed by Gharibpur is invited to attend the French festival that runs from September 16 to 25 to stage their opera puppet show named “Ashura”.
“We encountered insulting behavior at the French Embassy here in Tehran despite having all the necessary documents we needed to present,” Gharibpur told here on Sunday.
“We were asked by the embassy officials to hand in an authorization from the French Ministry of Labor. The request seemed strange to us as well as to the organizers of the French festival.
“The French organizers next were forced to obtain the authorization, but the troupe’s representative still faced improper behavior from the embassy. This prompted the organizers to directly refer the case to the French Presidential Office to have the problem corrected,” he added.
Gharibpur lamented over why the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not take any serious action in confronting these types of insulting behaviors.
Despite that the troupe is heading to France on Monday, Gharibpur said that he is certain this problem is not solved and will be repeated for other Iranian troupes in the future.
