Iran crushes Malaysia in FIBA Asia Championship

TEHRAN, Sept.20(MNA)-- Iran defeated Malaysia 121-36 in first game of the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship second round on Monday.

Hamed Afagh and Hamed Haddadi were Iran’s best scorers with 20 points each in the match held in Wuhan Gymnasium.

Iran, who has already defeated Chinese Taipei, Qatar, Uzbekistan in the event, will play Lebanon on Tuesday.

“We are using these games to get into rhythm,” said Hamed Afagh.

“We know we will face much tougher opposition in the next few days. We are prepared for that,” he said.

The champion will directly qualify for next year's London Olympics while the runner-up and bronze medalist have to compete in the Olympic qualifying tournament in July, 2012.
