GOVT DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO CHEAT THE PEOPLE - PM NAJIB
PUTRAJAYA, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak said the
government does not know how to cheat the people nor manipulate historical facts
as was being done by the opposition.
He said the Barisan Nasional (National Front-bN) government's struggles were
on the right track and clear besides fulfilling the pledges and responsibilities
to bring prosperity to the people and country.
What the opposition was propagating, including the pledges made during the
2008 general election, which had not been fulfilled until now, were only for
their own political interests and agenda.
"Our struggles are to ensure that the country progresses further and people
enjoys greater prosperity. We have been championing this cause right from the
start...it is nothing new.
"We have very clear agenda...others (the opposition) have nothing that we
can hold on to," he said at the Aidilfitri gathering with almost 300 members of
the Association of Former Members of the Social Welfare Development Department
(PBAKM) at the Prime Minister's residence, Seri Perdana, here Tuesday.
Also present was Melaka Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam, who is also PBAKM
Advisor.
Najib said the BN government had long struggled for the prosperity and
happiness of the people, but there were groups who were taking the opportunity
to manipulate facts.
"What is important is that we work hard to explain to the people right down
to the grassroots level. We must correct the lies spread or facts that were
manipulated.
"Besides clarifying these manipulations, we also need to explain that Umno
and the BN are ahead of the transformation curve. They (people) should not treat
Umno and the BN as an old party, a party that has no new ideas...no freshness in
their struggles," he said.
Najib, who is also the PBAKM Patron, said if the opposition were to be given
the power to rule Malaysia, it could bring disaster to the country.
God forbids, if they get power, I think they will want to change everything
that we have defended, that we inherited. (They) want to interpret history
(their own way), want to change the flag...many other nonsensical things they
will do," he said.
The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for the commitment shown by
former members of the PBAKM all this while, and urged them to continue to assist
the government in creating public awareness that Umno and the BN had always
championed the cause of the people.
Najib said that holding the function at his residence at Seri Perdana was
also significant for members of the PBAKM to be together in assisting the
government to defend the government administrative centre here.
"This is not my house...this is the residence of the Umno (United Malays
National Organisation) and BN Prime Minister. We must defend Putrajaya because
our future and that of our grandchildren's depends on Umno and the BN...the
others (opposition) cannot be relied upon," he said.
