MALAYSIA TO HOST SIFE WORLD CUP NEXT MONTH

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will for the first time host the
Student in Free Enterprise (SIFE) World Cup, which will be held at the Kuala
Lumpur Convention Centre from Oct 3 to 5.

International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed said Malaysia was
the second Asian country to be given the honour to host the prestigious event,
after Singapore in 2008.

He said some 2,500 participants from 38 countries would be taking part in
the annual event and that it would certainly have a big impact on students of
local institutions of higher learning.

"Fifty students from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (Petronas University of
Technology) will be representing Malaysia this time. We hope they will take
advantage of the opportunity to network with their foreign counterparts as well
interact with well-known academicians and corporate figures from throughout the
world," he told reproters here Tuesday.

Prime Minister Najib Razak is scheduled to host a dinner for the
participants and guests of SWC 2011 on Oct 5.

SIFE is a programme active in more than 45 countries and funded by financial
contributions from corporations, entrepreneurs, foundations, government agencies
and individuals.

Students form teams on university and college campuses to develop community
outreach projects that teach others about market economics, success skills,
entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and business ethics with the ultimate goal
of creating economic opportunity.
