MINISTRY EYES KEY AREAS TO BOOST WOMEN'S ECONOMIC PROWESS
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The Women, Family and Community
Development Ministry is taking concrete actions in four priority areas to further strengthen the government's measures to empower women economically.
Its minister, Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the areas were women's access to capital, markets, capacity and skills building, as well as the rise of women leaders in both the public and private sectors.
"Equal access and opportunity for women in these areas is central to more equitable economic growth, and simultaneously a sound strategy for poverty reduction," she said when closing the World Women Economic Forum Tuesday.
Shahrizat noted that by promoting entrepreneurship and greater leadership for women in business and government, they would gain better access to finance, education, training, employment and healthcare.
The four priority areas were outlined in the San Francisco Declaration adopted at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit on Women and the Economy last week.
