SINGAPORE BAGS EIGHT ASEAN ENERGY AWARDS

SINGAPORE, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- A total of eight Singapore organisations
received awards at the 2011 Asean Energy Awards held at the 29th Asean Ministers
on Energy Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony on Tuesday in Brunei.

This is the largest number of awards bagged by Singapore since the Asean
Energy Awards started in 2000, a statement from the Energy Market Authority of
Singapore said.

The awards recognise efforts by innovative companies in Asean who promote
and implement energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions.

Under the "Asean Energy Awards - Energy Efficiency Competition (New &
Existing Category), City Square Mall bagged the first runner-up award.

This is the first mall in Singapore to be awarded the Building &
Construction Authority's Green Mark Platinum Award, and is designed with
state-of-the-art green building features.

To date, the mall has achieved electricity savings of more than 30 percent
compared to similar buildings.

Another winner was Bosch Southeast Asia's headquarters, which was the second
runner-up. Bosch generates three per cent of its monthly energy use through
solar panels on the rooftop of its building.

With the solar panels and other energy saving features, Bosch now has an
energy consumption of around 32 per cent less than comparable industrial
buildings over a 12-month period.

Commending the efforts of the companies, Minister, Prime Minister's Office
and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade & Industry, S Iswaran, said: "The
increasing number of Singapore companies receiving the awards is a testament to
Singapore's role as a living laboratory for clean energy and energy efficiency
solutions.

"We look forward to encouraging more of such companies to create and
demonstrate their energy solutions in Singapore, before scaling up their
commercial operations for the regional and global markets."
