DIRECT FLIGHTS BETWEEN M'SIA AND RUSSIA NEEDED TO PROMOTE TOURISM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen said direct flights between Malaysia and Russia are necessary in order to boost tourism between the two countries.

"I intend to intensify various efforts to regain the interests of tourists from Russia to visit this country," she told Bernama after officially opening a luxury watch boutique at the Farenheit 88 shopping centre, here Wednesday.

Dr Ng, who had recently gone on a working visit to Moscow, said, however, everyone must play a continuous role in a proactive and innovative manner to woo tourists to Malaysia.

The minister also said that there were many tourism sectors in the country that had yet to be promoted including shopping tourism and duty-free shops.
