MITSUBISHI MALAYSIA TO TRIPLE MART SHARE BY 2015 THROUGH MITSUBISHI-PROTON COLLABORATION
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd expects the
collaboration between Proton Holdings Bhd and Mitsubishi Motors Corp (MMC) will
triple its market share in Malaysia by 2015, its chief executive officer
Tetsuya Oda said.
Mitsubishi Motors held a market share of two per cent in the country's total
industry volume last year and five per cent in the non-national car segment,
he said.
He said the new projects with the national carmaker would help MMC penetrate
Malaysia and Asean markets by offering new product lines while at the same time
broaden its network in the region.
"This is certainly positive for both companies and the motor vehicle
industry," he told reporters after unveiling the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
VGT (variable geometry turbo) here today.
Proton and MMC recently announced that they were strengthening their
collaboration via the joint production of engines at Proton, the contract
assembly of Mitsubishi vehicles catering to the Asean market and the sharing of
parts and components.
Oda said Mitsubishi Motors, the official distributor of MMC in the country,
was confident sales would grow by 10 per cent this fiscal year to 13,000 units
from last year on the back of steady customer demand.
It aimed to sell over 200 units of Pajero Sport per month, he said.
"This model has been a great success since its debut in Malaysia. To date,
it has found over 3,000 owners and with new advanced technology the Pajero
Sport VGT is set to further widen the appeal," he said.
The fully-imported Pajero Sport VGT is priced at RM171,980 (US$57,320)on the
road, inclusive of insurance with a three-year warranty and two-year free
maintenance package.
It features a new five-speed automatic transmission with sport mode and
better driving enjoyment assisted by steering wheel magnesium paddle shifters.
