Iranian, Russian security chiefs discuss common threats
TEHRAN, Sept. 22 (MNA) – Top Iranian and Russian security chiefs discussed on Wednesday a range of topics including common threats, regional security issues, and strategic cooperation between Tehran and Moscow.
Saeed Jalili, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary, and Nikolai Patrushev, Russia’s Security Council secretary, met for a working breakfast on the sidelines of a global security forum in the Ural Mountains city of Yekaterinburg in Russia.
In August, Patrushev and Iranian officials held several meetings in Tehran and discussed Russia’s “step-by-step” plan about Iran’s nuclear program and explored ways to enhance cooperation in the nuclear sphere.
According to the Russian plan, declared on July 13, Iran could address questions about its nuclear program and be rewarded with a gradual easing of sanctions.
In a separate meeting on Wednesday, Jalili and Chinese Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu exchanged views about the latest regional developments and highlighted the importance of cooperation among members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to counter common security threats.
