Ethnic Korean fighter cruises to win at martial arts event
SEOUL, Sept. 23 (Yonhap) -- Korean-Japanese martial arts star Chu Seong-hun defeated Tonooka Masanori of Japan to claim his second win at a major tournament in Japan on Tuesday.
Chu, the 33-year-old former judoka also known as Yoshihiro Akiyama in Japan,
edged out Masanori with a powerful armbar in the first round at the "Dream" mixed
martial arts competition held in Saitama, Japan.
Chu, a fourth-generation ethnic Korean born in Japan, is popular among South
Koreans. A fashion leader and amateur singer, he is known for his affectionate
comments about his ethnic homeland.
