STRONG EARTHQUAKE HITS TONGA
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - A strong earthquake measuring 6.8 on the
Richter scale hit the Pacific island nation, Tonga Friday morning.
The Malaysian Meteorology Department said in a statement Friday that the
quake which occurred at 7.07am struck at Tonga, 802km of Suva, Fiji and
7,685km Southeast of Kunak, in the East Malaysian state of Sabah.
The quake however, did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, it said.
