EU seeking diplomatic solution to Iran’s nuclear issue: EU foreign policy chief
TEHRAN, Sept. 25 (MNA) – European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said that the EU is seeking to resolve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program through diplomatic channels.
“We hope that we will follow a path which ends in the settlement of problems on the issue,” Ashton stated in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York on Thursday.
She also commented on the letter that secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili has recently sent to her on resuming talks between Iran and the 5+1 group (the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany).
She said she would soon respond to the letter.
For his part, Salehi also said there is a great potential that should be utilized to help promote cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the EU.
