'Supreme Leader deeply grieved at Rabbani martyrdom'

TEHRAN, Sept.25(MNA)-- Supreme Leader’s top advisor Ali Akbar Velayati said that Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei is deeply distressed at the martyrdom of former Afghan president Burhanuddin Rabbani.

Velayati made the remarks during a meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Kabul on Friday.

Rabbani who headed Afghanistan’s High Peace Council was martyred inside his Kabul home on Tuesday afternoon in a suicide bombing.

Velayati also extended his deep condolences over the martyrdom of Rabbani and said he is hopeful that “the martyr’s blood would help the establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan.”

He added that the assassination of the former Afghan president reveals the weakness of Afghanistan’s enemies, emphasizing that efforts to undermine peace and security in Afghanistan are futile.

A high-ranking Iranian delegation, headed by Velayati, attended Rabbani’s funeral on Friday.
