Iranian actress Katayun Riahi lends a hand to Somali refugees
TEHRAN,Sept.25(MNA)-- Actress Katayun Riahi has traveled to a Somali refuge camp in Kenya to help people suffering from severe famine and drought.
Accompanied by photographer Ghogha Bayat, Riahi is staying in Garissa, a city in the North Eastern Province of Kenya, to help Somali refugees who live in the city’s camps.
In addition to her personal financial aid, she also dedicated a part of the financial assistance provided by Mehr Afarin Panah-e Asr Institute to famine-stricken Somalia.
“The most startling point in my trip was to see the citizens of a poor country host guests with a smile and warm look,” Riahi mentioned in her report.
Iranian photographer Ali Zare’ and Iftar Spreads Photo Exhibit held showcases in Tehran to raise funds for the Somalis.
A group of mentally retarded Iranian children will also hold benefit concerts for Somalis children on September 28, 29 and 30 in Tehran.
On July 20, the United Nations declared a famine in two regions of southern Somalia owing to the worst drought in decades, and appealed for urgent resources to assist millions of people in desperate need of help.
Iran has sent several shipments of humanitarian to Somalia over the past months.
