PJAK Halts Terrorist Operations after Iran's Crushing Response

TEHRAN (FNA)- PJAK's terrorist operations have been brought to a halt after the powerful operations of Iran's military and law enforcement troops, Commander of Iran's Border Guard Units General Hossein Zolfaqari said on Monday.
"PJAK's moves have been harnessed through the cooperation between the IRGC (Islamic Revolution Guard Corps) and border guards units of the law enforcement police," Zolfaqari told reporters.

Elaborating on the cause of the PJAK retreat, he said that the terrorist group has sustained heavy casualties and a number of PJAK ringleaders have been killed by the IRGC forces in Baneh region.

Last week, forces of the IRGC troops purged Iran's Northwestern regions of PJAK terrorists and stationed along the borders.

The forces deployed along the borders after the Iranian armed forces conducted a series of massive military operations inside the country's territories to root out the anti-Iran terrorist group.

Elsewhere, the commander responded to a question about the security conditions alongside the country's Eastern borders which neighbor Pakistan's restive provinces and the world's number one drug produces Afghanistan, and said that Iran's border regions in the Northeast, East and Southeast enjoy a proper level of security.

He added that the border guard units have also started digging canals, creating barbed wire entanglements and deploying units in the Mirjaveh border region.

The commander also said that the measures came despite the fact that the volume of drug-trafficking in the region has recently declined remarkably due to police measures.

Iran is on a crossroad of international drug transit route linking the world drug hub, Afghanistan, to the Persian Gulf and European countries.

Iran spends billions of dollars and has lost thousands of its police troops in the war against traffickers. The crackdown has cost Iran more than 600 million dollars over the past two years. Last year, Iran allocated over $150 million to strengthen border security and block the entry of terrorists and drug traffickers into the country.

Strategies pursued by Tehran include digging canals, building barriers and installing barbed wire to seal its borders.
