3 Iranian TV productions nominated for 2011 ABU Prizes

TEHRAN,Sept.26(MNA)-- Three Iranian TV productions have found their way into the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Prizes Contest (ABU Prizes) 2011 including “Missing”, “Land of Knowledge”, and “Sugarland”.

The TV series “Missing” will be competing in the drama section, “Land of Knowledge” is an entry in the entertainment section, and “Sugarland” is among the entries in the youth section, the competition website has reported.

“Missing” ” by Rama Qavidel centers on a woman named Maryam Salimian who was a relief worker in Bam after an earthquake on December 26, 2003 devastated the city. Five years later, she gets a job with the Red Crescent Organization at the department of missing individuals where she gets involved in different cases searching for missing individuals in Iran or outside the country.

“Land of Knowledge” by Saeid Abutaleb is a TV contest part of which has been aired on Tehran’s TV channel 5.

“Sugarland” (Shekarestan) by Babak Nazari is an acclaimed Iranian animation on Persian proverbs.

“This is the first time one of my productions has found its way into an international event and I am happy to hear that. ‘Missing’, in a way, centers on international events,” Qavidel told on Sunday.

According to Director of ABU Programming Takeshi Doki, this year there were 141 entries for the TV categories and 73 submissions for radio.

There are seven TV categories of documentary, drama, entertainment, children, sports, youth and news. The TV and radio segments each have a special jury prize to honor the outstanding programs, he had said.

Winners of this year’s ABU Prizes will be announced during the awards ceremony on November 7 in New Delhi.
