Iran v-ballers defeat Japan in Asian tourney

TEHRAN, Sept. 27 (MNA) -- Iran overpowered Japan in the 16th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship on Monday.

The Iranian outfit defeated powerhouse Japan in three straight sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-17) in the match held at Tehran’s Azadi Hall.

The hosts dominated in attacking and blocking in the classification round match.

Iran took first place in Pool E with the victory and will play Sri Lanka on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round.

The Iranian team has also defeated Afghanistan, Chinese Taipei, India, and Pakistan without losing a set in the competition.

Over the years, only six teams -- Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, Iran, and Kazakhstan -- have won the Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship.
