Iran’s Sepahan punished by Asian football body
TEHRAN, Sept.27(MNA)--Iran’s Sepahan has been found guilty for using an ineligible player against Al Sadd of Qatar in the first leg of AFC Champions League quarterfinals.
The disciplinary committee of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has awarded a 3-0 win to Qatari club and imposed a $1,000 fine on Sepahan.
Sepahan did defeat Al Sadd 1-0 on September 14 in Isfahan.
The committee adjudged that Rahman Ahmadi of Sepahan should have served a suspension in the match after receiving two yellow cards during the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2011 when he played for Persepolis of Iran.
He received the first caution against Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia and then another one against Al Wahda of UAE (Persepolis' last match in the tournament) before he moved to Sepahan during the summer window.
According to Article 69, paragraph A of the AFC Champions League Competition Regulations 2011 and Articles 17 paragraph 3 and 38 paragraph 1 and 4 of the AFC Disciplinary Code, Ahmadi’s suspension should have been served in the quarterfinal first leg.
The AFC disciplinary committee also ordered that the player will serve the suspension in the return leg against Al Sadd, according to AFC website.
Sepahan have the right to appeal within three days of notification of the decision.
The return leg of the quarterfinal will take place at Al Sadd Stadium on September 28, 2011.
