MALAYSIA TRANSFORMATION AGENDA IS ABOUT RESILIENCE, ADAPTABILTY: PM
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The government's transformation agenda is not about insulating the country from the vagaries of change but to achieve resilience and adaptability to the unpredicted shocks, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said on Tuesday.
"The uncertainty phenomenon this forum postulates as a normality will see the economy subjected to many such jolts, but if we view an economy as a system, then we know that only a stable and resilient one that is able to withstand them," he said in his closing address at the Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2011

He said that to build that resilience and to create a system that at the same time has flexibility, agility and even nimbleness, the government must remove rigidities within the system at the same time as building capacity and capabilities in those that manage it.
At the same time, leaders of enterprises, be they in business or politics, must be aware of the uncertainties that they are facing, he said.
The Prime Minister said events have shown that the ubiquitous market can also fail and fail quite miserably, resulting in the need for the government to step up and provide some leadership.
Najib however pointed out that by agreeing to put aside narrow-minded groups or self-interest and acting out of sheer love for the nation, Malaysians can achieve more and go far.
"Not only must the country change -- changing the role and effectiveness of the government, our economic logic and the way we live -- we must agree to change together," he said.
Without that consensus, the country and the people would forego the
opportunity to become a developed economy and a mature society, and to carve out their own place in the community of nations, he said.
"If you ask me whether I am pessimistic or optimistic, I would like to say that as a person, I have great faith in Malaysia.
"I believe we can achieve our hope and aspirations and I strongly believe we are at the dawn of a new Malaysia," he added.
