BE MORE COMPETITIVE, MALAYSIA'S CREATIVE INDUSTRY URGED
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The information, communications and culture ministry wants practitioners of the local creative industry to be more competitive in developing their productions, saying this would make Malaysia a creative content hub recognised worldwide.
"We must provide incentives to the industry, such as sufficient funding, to complete their productions," deputy minister Joseph Salang Gandum told reporters after opening the International Creative Content Conference (IC3) 2011 organised by Post Production Animation & Creative Content Association Malaysia (Postam) here on Tuesday.
Also present was Postam president Yoki Chin and deputy president Amir Irwan Bahruddin.
For animation production, Salang said the ministry would not stifle any practitioner so long as they did not infringe any regulation.
"In animation production, the government is open...but the values in the country need to be assimilated into the production.
"We cannot have tight control but local sensitivities must be taken into consideration and elements of pornography should be avoided completely," he said.
Four hundred participants from the creative industry, including script writers and students, attended the conference.
Postam, founded in 1996, provides innovative opportunities for networking and information-sharing to professionals in the various post-production fields, including animation and visual effects.
